DETROIT (Reuters) - The following are the top quotes from the third day of the Reuters Autos Summit in Detroit.

TIM LEULIETTE, CEO DURA AUTOMOTIVE SYSTEMS INC, ON THE LOAN GUARANTEES TO DETROIT

"I like free money but it's not always free. AIG (American International Group Inc (AIG.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz)) found out this morning, it comes with strings attached, sometimes cables and ropes ... We have to understand as a country, if AIG could not implode without bringing risk to the economy, General Motors (Corp (GM.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz)) is 10 times more important to the industrial base of this country."

"The tools this industry needs to rebuild itself lay shattered on Wall Street. The impact on the economy of an industry that starts to fail will be much worse than AIG."

PRABHAKAR PATIL, CEO OF LG CHEM (051910.KS: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) UNIT COMPACT POWER INC CEO, ON GM'S ELECTRIC CAR

"The word 'gamechanger' gets used too often, but in this case, (GM) is trying to change the paradigm in terms of what can be done."

"The sense of urgency being driven by (GM) is almost unheard of. On the battery side, we are able and willing to keep pace with them."

"If you get Volt volumes to the order of 100,000 units, that would start to have a strong leveraging effect on the lithium-ion materials market. (Costs) will continue to come down, but part of it depends on demand."

BUZZ HARGROVE, FORMER PRESIDENT, CANADIAN AUTO WORKERS UNION

"You can't continue to lose billions, lose market share, lose sales, and find the money to do what consumers are demanding ... Not a week goes by we don't get another plant closure, shift reduction, or layoffs."

"(CAW members) can't believe the lack of government willingness to deal with a very unfair situation."

"The answer is the money to help retool, and I think there should be a freeze of imports from Japan and Korea at the 2007 level ... They're throwing more Americans and more Canadians out of work."
