FACTBOX: Largest healthcare acquisitions

(Reuters) - Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd (TEVA.O: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz)(TEVA.TA: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) said on Friday it would buy rival generic drugmaker Barr Pharmaceuticals Inc (BRL.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) for $7.46 billion to expand its leadership in the U.S. market and fortify its presence in Europe.

The deal ranks as the third biggest healthcare deal, both worldwide and in the U.S., this year, according to data from Thomson Reuters.

It trails Novartis AG's (NOVN.VX: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) pending $38 billion acquisition of Alcon Inc (ACL.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz), and Takeda Pharmaceutical Co Ltd's (4502.T: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) $8.7 billion acquisition of Millennium Pharmaceuticals Inc.

In terms of all healthcare deals on record, the Barr-Teva deal ranks as the 36th-biggest worldwide healthcare deal of all time, and the 23rd-largest ever in the United States.
